GUIDELINES

PURPOSE OF FOOTBALL – Experience Success, build lifelong relationships, and Have Fun Doing So!

TEAM GOALS – Win the First Game, Win the Next Game, Etc. Play as a Cohesive Unit.

EXPECTATIONS – At Norman North H.S. we will have Definite Parameters and Boundaries of Behaviors and Expectations that will lead to Fun and Success. Most of these will be given on this sheet and will also be given verbally by Coaches, School Administrators, and Team Leaders. It is necessary for each player to know and follow these Guidelines for Success. Players are Instructed the way Coaches would want their sons coached!

NORMAN NORTH SUMMER PRIDE – It is Necessary to make a commitment to the Team and to Yourself to Get Better. One of these Commitments is Our SUMMER PRIDE program. If you attend, the rewards are an advantage to us and you the individual. If you do not attend, you are at a DEFINITE disadvantage!

REINFORCEMENT – If each player follows the rules and guidelines of this Football Program, success will surely follow. If a player does not adhere to our policies, negative reinforcement will be firm, fair, and consistent. It may take the form of extra running, forfeiture of suiting-up for a game(s), counseling with coaches/or administration, and/or forfeiture of the privilege of playing football at Norman North H.S.

CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR – Good citizenship will be expected of each player in the classroom, for it is part of the commitment in playing football. Behavior problems will be dealt with as the above paragraph describes. If you are in Off-Season Football the same ground rules apply.

APPEARANCE – It is our belief that we will function as a TEAM. One aspect of this team concept is that we will all look alike during playing time. There will be no jewelry worn during practice or games. This includes body-piercing jewelry, watches, bracelets, chains around necks or ankles, rings, etc.
	· According to O.S.S.A.A. rules no item shall be worn on your head under your helmet.
	· Hats are not to be worn when representing the TEAM, unless they are Norman North hats.
	· The length, color, or style of your hair is up to the discretion of the Head Coach. Basically, it must not draw undue attention or be unsightly.
	· When on road trips, players will be instructed of proper attire. Length, weather, etc. will all determine proper dress. We will look “classy” and neat when unloading the bus.
	· Spirit Packs will be worn during practices. Spirit Packs from the previous year are fine providing they have no holes, paint, or the design has not changed since. No beer or alcohol advertising, message that is of questionable moral character is allowed to be worn on clothing.
	· Players will need a padded “Girdle” for practice. The girdle holds all pads except knee pads. WE ARE ASKING $20 FOR SPIRIT PACKS. THIS INCLUDES DRY-FIT SHORTS AND A T-SHIRT. A PADDED GIRDLE CAN BE ORDERED THROUGH TWID’S SPORTING GOODS FOR AN ADDITIONAL $20.

PROMPTNESS – Be on time or early for meetings.

CLEANLINESS – Take off cleats before entering locker rooms unless permission is granted otherwise. Throw cups, trash, tape etc. in proper receptacle. Do not leave any trash and tape in visiting locker rooms, buses etc. Leave all areas how you found them or better. Do not put paper towels in sinks, toilets, and urinals. This is your facility, treat it with respect.

LANGUAGE – Foul language and cursing will not be acceptable on and off the field.

PAPERWORK – Turn in paperwork and forms when requested. You cannot practice without physical and appropriate forms on file.

MANAGE TIME – There is enough time to do it all. Budget your time wisely, others have.

KNOWLEDGE – Learn the game of football. Learn all the positions you can. Know the rules of the game and be a student of the game.

CONTACT – Football is a collision sport. Football is tough, so are we!

WHO PLAYS? WHY? WHERE? – Coaches don’t make decisions on who plays based on making particular kids and parents happy. evaluation is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Talent, Dependability, Dedication. Whatever is best for the TEAM

LETTERING – To letter in Varsity Football, you must play in six quarters. That can be as little as one play per quarter, yet has to be in six different quarters.

POSITION – You may try out at any position you like, but the ultimate placement is where the coaching staff believes you can make the greatest contribution to the TEAM.

PARENTS - Parents are welcome, but there is a way to visit with the coaches. There are places and times to talk. Parents are to stay on the perimeter of the field or in the bleachers. Please refrain from going into the coaches meeting rooms unless a meeting has been scheduled. Please keep sidelines free during games for coaches, players, trainers, administrators, media, etc.
